Now I am just a regular guy that has no idea how to patent or manufacture anything. Then this last Thanksgiving of 2024, I reached out to a friend, Don Wehmeyer, and I shared my idea with him. The next day, he had a 3-D printed version of it for my viewing. Every day we made minor adjustments together to the prototype and within three weeks we had our first mold manufactured. We then moved on to the difficult part of the invention. We had to design the proper silicone for use in order to make it pliable enough to fit not only the AR-15 platform but also to become a “One Size Fits All” for use with all extended magazines. After eight tries, countless tests, and Don’s expertise, he figured out the set times and the mold inserts for the magazine shape. We finally brought the Original US Mag Grip to the market on February 21, 2025 (first patent pending). We then brought the Illumination Series US Mag Grip to the market on April 5, 2025 (second patent pending).

The US Mag Grip offers a distinctive silicone texture that not only offers a non-slip surface that improves handling and minimizes accidental drops, but it also elevates the overall hunting experience with a steady grip even under varying environmental conditions. These grips combine a durable yet soft, textured surface with the agility needed for rapid magazine changes, ensuring the hold remains secure even under wet or adverse conditions. Silicone stands out in the realm of tactile materials due to its unique combination of resistance to UV exposure, moisture, and chemicals, as well as maintaining its grip and performance even in fluctuating temperatures or after prolonged exposure to oils and moisture. This translates to fewer instances of wear and tear, making silicone more the more durable choice and reliable for repeated handling. When compared to other materials, rubber is more prone to degradation from UV exposure and temperature extremes; foam materials lack the robust non-slip characteristics and longevity of silicone; and thermoplastic elastomers often fall short in matching silicone’s overall environmental resistance and long-term durability.

The Original US Mag Grip is available in three colors currently:

Hunter Orange, Military Beige, and Black. This grip offers excellent grip as you simply slide the grip where you would like it to set on the magazine, and once in place, it will not move. The silicone grips the magazine whether it is made of steel or plastic.

The Illumination Series US Mag Grip was added after spending a short time with the Original Mag Grip in the field. Having to always grab a flashlight in the field, I decided it would be best to simply have one on your grip. With the convenience of having both of these options with the US Mag Grip directly placed on your magazine, it provides removable lighting that can easily be directed where you desire or even placed on a truck bed or a Jeep hood as a tool. The Illumination Series have a built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery and is charged using the included USB-C port. The battery becomes fully charged in under two hours (red light turns off when fully charged) and has a continuous runtime of 20 hours or more before dimming.

The illumination Series is currently available in three models. Two are for hunting and one is for home defense. The lights are activated by clicking the upper and lower finger grooves.

I. White and Red Hunting Illumination Series US Mag Grip: The top light is a traditional White LED light that is activated by clicking the upper finger groove. The bottom light is a Red LED light that is activated by clicking the lower finger groove. The Red LED lighting offers a unique combination of map reading and maintaining invisibility, particularly in low-light or tactical situations. The Red LED light preserves night visibility because it minimizes the stimulation of the rod cells in the retina, allowing your eyes to remain adapted to darkness while still providing adequate illumination for reading detailed maps. This is essential for quickly gathering directional information without sacrificing your situational awareness in the dark.

II. White and Blue Hunting Illumination Series US Mag Grip: The top light is a traditional White LED light that is activated by clicking the upper finger groove. The bottom light is a Blue/UV LED light that is activated by clicking the lower finger groove. The Blue/UV LED lighting offers a unique advantage in detecting “blackened” blood trails and tracking wounded game during the hunt at dusk and beyond. Blood appears black under UV light because it absorbs UV light instead of reflecting or becoming fluorescent. This black appearance contrasts well with other objects, making it ideal for in-field applications where low-light conditions prevail.

III. White and Strobe Home Defense Illumination Series US Mag Grip: The top light is a traditional White LED light that is activated by clicking the upper finger groove. The bottom light is a Strobe LED light that is activated by clicking the lower finger groove. When activating the lower light, both top and bottom lights will strobe together, using the brightest LED lighting available for this series. The White light allows for searching a home, RV, campsite, or looking for whatever or whomever should not be there. Activating the lower light will allow both lights to turn into a bright Strobe light. The Strobe lighting serves as a powerful asset in home defense by leveraging rapid, pulsating flashes to create disorientation and confusion for any potential intruder. The intense, rapid bursts can momentarily impair an intruder’s vision and disrupt their spatial awareness, effectively delaying or even deterring unwanted advances. This disorienting effect is essential in providing homeowners with crucial seconds to react, secure themselves, and alert authorities.
